Roseburg’s Silvestri places top 30 at Junior World Championships golf tournament

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Lana Silvestri, a rising-sophomore at Roseburg High School, tallied a three-day score of 219 and tied for 30th in the 15-18 year-old division at the Uswing Mojing Junior World Championships golf tournament held at Torrey Pines Golf Course.

Silvestri shot 74 (+2) for her third round to finish at 3-over par for the tournament. Anna Iwanaga from Japan and Amelia Harris from Australia finished tied atop the leaderboard with a three-round total of 210, or 6-under par.

168 golfers competed in the tournament.

The par 5 holes were beneficial for Silvestri on the par 72 course. She had five of her 10 total birdies holes 5, 9, 10 and 17 on the Torrey Pines South Course.

Silverstri shot 74 (+2) through her first round and was 1-under par (71) for her second round.

Kate Ly, a rising-senior at Cleveland High School in Portland, finished in a tie for 21st in the Junior World Championship field. Ly placed 6th in the Class 6A OSAA state championship golf tournament during the spring. Silvestri was third in the state championship tournament, five strokes ahead of Ly.
