UCC softball can’t hang on to early leads against Grays Harbor

OLYMPIA, WASH. — The Umpqua Riverhawks softball team managed to strike first in a its league-opening doubleheader against Grays Harbor, but the Chokers bounced back to sweep the twin bill on Monday.
Umpqua (1-9, 0-2 South Region) took an early lead in both games, but didn’t sustain the advantage in 12-5 and 16-6 losses.
Grays Harbor (9-3, 2-0) hit six home runs between the two games, helping power their comeback efforts. Ciara Mennitto had a pair of homers in Game 2 and finished the day with six RBIs.
Bella Garza had a home run in both games for UCC. The freshman went 4-for-6 with 4 RBIs.
Up next, the UCC women will host Centralia for a league a doubleheader on Saturday. The games will be played at Maple Elementary in Springfield.
