UCC women win, men lose in South Region matchup with SWOCC
WINCHESTER — The No. 2-ranked Umpqua women’s basketball team led by as many as 29 points and cruised to a 90-72 win over the Southwestern Oregon Lakers on Wednesday at the UCC gym.
The Riverhawks won the battle on the glass with a 41-26 rebound advantage and outscored the Lakers 40-16 in the paint.
Brooklyn Fely and Rebekah Beltran both had 16 points for the UCC women. Jessi Knudsen, Helen Wolfe and Reagan Bruner all had 17 points for SWOCC.
The Umpqua men had a three-game winning streak come to an end with a 74-66 loss to Southwestern Oregon on Wednesday.
The ‘Hawks never led in the matchup and trailed by as much as 17 points in the second period. UCC committed 10 turnovers that led to 16 points for the Lakers.
Jayden Haskell had 20 points to lead the Riverhawks and Bowen Davies had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Umpqua Riverhawks basketball teams continue the season on Monday with a home matchup against Clark. Games will be played at 2 and 4 p.m. on President’s Day.
