UCC sweeps league games at Chemeketa
KEIZER — The Umpqua Community College women’s basketball team defeated Chemeketa 83-62 in a South Region matchup Wednesday night.
Brooklyn Fely and Rebekah Beltran both had double-doubles to lead the way for the Riverhawks. Fely had 30 points and 15 rebounds, while Beltran had 13 points, 10 rebounds and added seven steals.
Douglas grad Kierra Bennett made seven 3-point shots and had 25 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the ‘Hawks.
The Umpqua (21-1, 9-1 South) women remain one game behind Lane for first place in the South Region standings.
The UCC men followed that up with a 91-87 win in overtime against the Storm on Wednesday.
There were 12 lead changes in the contest and both sides shot over 50% for the game.
After rallying from a 5-point deficit in the final two minutes of regulation to force an extra session, the Riverhawks finished OT on a 7-3 run to snatch the victory.
Four Umpqua (18-4, 7-3 South) players finished in double figures, led by Bowen Davies who had 20 points and 10 rebounds.
The Umpqua men and women continue the season on Saturday at Clackamas.
