EUGENE — The Roseburg football team got off to a quick start, scoring on its first four possessions, and the Indians rolled past the South Eugene Axe 35-6 in a Special District 4 game Friday night at Morrow Field.

“It was everything we preached all week long about starting fast,” Roseburg coach Matt Watson said. “We went a little up-tempo to enforce that. The kids took to it. We started the week fast. Ended the week fast and started the game fast.”

Roseburg speedster Kaden Austin helped the Indians burst out of the gates in the first half. The senior scored three touchdowns before halftime, pacing the Tribe to a 28-0 lead.

A third quarter rushing touchdown for Tyler Rietmann put Roseburg (3-4, 2-4 SD4) ahead 35-0 and began the running clock.

South Eugene (0-7, 0-6) punched-in its lone score of the night with 10 seconds left to play on a 5-yard run by sophomore quarterback Felix Olietti.

“We really needed this as a team and we need to keep rolling,” Austin said after his big day.

The senior receiver totaled 153 yards on the night. He had four receptions for 107 yards. Austin had touchdown receptions of 20 and 31 yards, and also scored on a 19-yard run.

Roseburg’s offense tallied 366 yards. Quarterback Corey Kimball was 7-for-8 through the air for 151 yards. The junior connected with his receivers on four passes of 30-plus yards.

“He had a lot of time to be able to throw,” Watson said. “We had looks on the outside that we liked. We had looks inside that we liked. So we were just trying to take our shots when they presented themselves.”

The Indians’ defense was also a lot to handle for the Axe offense.

South Eugene managed just 128 total yards and Roseburg tallied three sacks and four tackles for loss. Senior defensive lineman Bracen Parker was a constant force in the backfield.

“He’s tough to stop. He’s a handful and seeing him in the backfield a couple of times was exciting,” Watson said.

Roseburg will host Eagle Point Friday in its final home game of the season. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Finlay Field.
