Roseburg volleyball earns stunning sweep vs No. 6 South Medford
It was a game that many might have overlooked on the schedule, but the Roseburg volleyball team earned some attention Thursday night.
The Indians never wavered in a Southwest Conference match against No. 6 South Medford and stunned the first-place Panthers with a three-set sweep at Robertson Memorial Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-22, 25-19, 25-19.
Senior Arlie Aasen said after the match that the win didn’t just surprise the Panthers. “Practices have been really good. We all have been playing better together, but I don’t think any of us expected us to play this good.”
Aasen led an all-around strong effort by the Tribe with 14 kills, 2 blocks and 1 service ace. Masyn Tabor had 14 digs and Grace Ipsen contributed 38 assists.
“They worked as a team just substantially better than they have all season,” Roseburg coach Kelly Woodley. “They’re just bringing it together and every single one of them put in effort and they all had a winning part in it.”
Roseburg improved to 7-10 overall and 4-5 in SWC play. The loss was the first in league play for the Panthers, who fell to 11-7 overall and 7-1 in league matches.
The Indians continue the season on Saturday with play in the West Linn Tournament.
