Roseburg’s Tyler Popken shoots 90 on Day 1 of golf state championships
BANKS — Roseburg High School’s Tyler Popken is tied for 72nd after the first round of the high school golf state championships on Monday at Quail Valley Golf Course.
The senior was 18-over par for the day, shooting a 90 and winding up tied with Grants Pass’ Trey Alderson. Popken had four bogeys and three double-bogeys, but had two holes that spoiled a solid day. He shot 4-over par on the 533-yard par-5 hole 3 and carded an 8 on the par-4 hole 14.
Popken will get his final round underway Tuesday at 12:45 p.m.
Lake Oswego sophomore Drew Woolworth was the only golfer to shoot in the red. He’s at the top of the leaderboard after shooting 3-under on Day 1.
