The Oregon School Activities Association state track and field championship meet will be held at Eugene’s Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon on May 25-27.
Student-athletes from Douglas County started earning their spots in the championship field this week at district championship meets.
On Thursday, a handful of athlete’s punched their tickets.
Roseburg’s Timothy Johnson won the Southwest Conference boys 3,000 meter race with a PR time of 8:50.84. The time was also fast enough to qualify Johnson for the Nike Outdoor Nationals, which will be held at Hayward Field in June.
Roseburg’s Emmett Kalar took down the field in the SWC boys javelin and placed first with a throw of 166 feet, 9 inches.
Roseburg’s Bridget Brooksby also qualified for state after a third place finish in the pole vault.
Sutherlin’s Paige Edmonson took first in the girls long jump at the Class 3A Special District 4 meet at Siuslaw High School. Teammate Kendra Parson took second, less than three inches behind Edmonson.
