The Roseburg High School boys bowling team placed first in the 2023 High School State Bowling Tournament open division at Medford’s Lava Lanes on Sunday.
The RHS boys knocked out the defending state champs, North Medford, and rolled their way to the program’s first state title since 2015. The Indians had to come back against Bend after losing the first game in the best-of-three title bout, but rallied and dominated the winner-take-all third game by firing six straight strikes to start things out.
The championship match scores were 171-186, 196-165, and 256-170.
This win earned the Roseburg boys an invitation to the National High School Bowling Tournament in Beavercreek, OH in June.

The Roseburg girls were fierce competitors as the 4-seed, but were knocked out of title contention by top-seed Dallas. The RHS ladies edged Mazama for third in the final standings based on their total pinfall in the semifinals (284). The Vikings finished with a pinfall of 217.
Senior Alina Houghland brought home some hardware as the girls division singles tournament champion.
