League play gets underway for the 11-man football teams around the Umpqua Basin tonight as week 5 of the high school season kicks off.
The Roseburg Indians look to end a two-game skid when they head on the road to Grants Pass for their Southwest Conference opener. The Tribe has fallen short in a couple of close ballgames the last two weeks and will try to get back on track against the Cavemen.
Both teams enter the week with 2-2 records. Tonight’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. Broadcast coverage starts at 6:45 p.m. on 1490 The Score and online at 541radio.com.
In the 3A classification tonight, Sutherlin, Douglas and South Umpqua all begin league play.
The Sutherlin Bulldogs are starting to get some attention from around the state after receiving votes in the latest OSAA Today coaches poll. The Bulldogs will start league play by putting their high-scoring offense to the test against the stingy defense of La Pine.

South Umpqua starts league play at home tonight, but faces undefeated Brookings-Harbor for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Meanwhile, Douglas aims to get its first win of the year, but will have to get past No. 9 ranked St. Mary’s of Medford.
In the 2A classification, league play begins for Oakland and Glide. The No. 6 Oakland Oakers try to stretch a three-game winning streak against a winless Jefferson team. No. 10 Glide looks to bounce-back from its first loss with a road game at Illinois Valley.
