CORVALLIS – Corvallis starter Justin Doyle stifled Dr. Stewart’s batters for eight innings and helped guide the Gerding Builders Marketmen to a 3-2 nonleague victory on Thursday night.

The Doc’s managed just four hits off of Doyle and struck out six times. The right-hander managed to overcome four errors by the Corvallis defense and allowed just one earned run.

Roseburg took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. Caden Johnson led off the inning with a single and moved to third on a throwing error and a wild pitch. Johnson scored the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly by Luke Lucido.

Jacob Luther scored the second run in the fourth. He reached on a fielder’s choice and then took second base on a wild pitch. While Luther was advancing to second, Corvallis catcher Ben Leid threw wide of the bag and into centerfield allowing Luther to continue to third base. Another error by centerfielder Franklin Leonard gave Luther an easy pass to home.

Roseburg’s two-run lead didn’t last long. Corvallis took advantage of walks issued by Doc’s starter Jonathan Stone. The lanky right-hander walked the leadoff man, but got a double play to clear the bases. Stone followed that with three straight walks and was lifted from the game for Cade Meisner.

Meisner walked the first man he faced after a lengthy battle. Riley Smith fouled off multiple two-strike pitches and eventually earned an RBI after wearing down Meisner. Cade then gave up a two-out single to right field that tied the game. Both runs for Corvallis were credited to Stone, who didn’t factor into the pitching decision.

Corvallis scored the winning run in the sixth inning. Meanwhile, the Doc’s hitters struggled to produce many real scoring chances. Roseburg had just two runners in scoring position after the fourth inning.

Brody Black and Noah Burke had the only extra base hits of the game. Both batters hit doubles for the Doc’s, but neither was able to advance pass second. Luke Lucido had Roseburg’s only RBI.

Up next, the Doc’s will host Corvallis for a nine-inning wood bat game on Saturday night. First pitch from Legion Field is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tune in for coverage of the game starting at 5:45 p.m. on CBS Sports Radio 1490 The Score or watch online at 541radio.com.
