Prep Baseball: Roseburg pummels South Eugene, 19-3

EUGENE — The Roseburg Indians totaled 16 hits and overwhelmed the South Eugene Axe 19-3 in a Southwest Conference baseball game Tuesday at South Eugene High School.

The contest was stopped after five innings due to the mercy rule.

The Indians had five extra-base hits, including two each from AJ Black and Danner Wertz. Black had a pair of doubles and finished the game 3-for-5 with five RBIs. Wertz was 4-for-5 with a pair of triples and six RBIs.

Overall, Roseburg (7-3, 4-0 SWC) had five players with multiple hits as the Indians won their fourth consecutive game.

Wertz pitched four innings and held South Eugene (0-9, 0-4) to just two hits. The sophomore was a bit erratic, walking four and hitting three batters. He managed to limit the damage with five strikeouts.

Ryland Glasser closed out the game and pitched the fifth and final inning, allowing one hit but striking out a pair.

Eli Bishko and Zane Brown had RBI singles for South Eugene. Gino Humphrey had a double.

Roseburg and South Eugene will finish their three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday, starting at noon at Champion Car Wash Field.
