The Roseburg Indians finished out the 2025-26 basketball season with an 85-57 loss against the South Eugene Axe in a Southwest Conference game Tuesday night at Robertson Memorial Gymnasium.

Harrison Scott made five of Roseburg’s 10 3-point field goals on his way to 23 points, but the Indians had a tough time stopping South Eugene’s Elijah Gabriel, who scored a game-high 26 points for the Axe.

Gabriel was one of four players in double figures for South Eugene (8-4, 13-11 SWC). Calvin Yoder added 18 points, Cameron Perry chipped in 13 and Julius Shafer contributed 12.

Roseburg (0-24, 0-12) went on an 11-0 run in the first quarter to get within 20-19, but the Axe responded with a 5-0 run to take a 25-19 advantage to the second quarter.

Gabriel helped South Eugene build a 51-36 lead by halftime. The junior scored 22 points in the first half, including 10 in the second quarter.

South Eugene held off the Indians in the second half and the Axe closed out the regular season with its fourth win in five games.

The Class 6A state playoffs will be up next for South, which finished tied with Grants Pass for third place in the SWC. The brackets will be finalized after the OSAA rankings freeze Friday night.

Roseburg finished with the program’s first winless season.

The Indians celebrated the five graduating seniors prior to tipoff — Jaron Leeworthy, Marcus Lobo, Scott, Jaden Kemmerle and Trey Brown.

Brown had a career-high 12 points in his final high school game. He drained four 3-pointers in the second half.

Roseburg has the possibility of returning a number of juniors that played significant minutes this winter.
