Prep Boys Basketball: Roseburg drops conference-opener to Willamette, 84-60

Harrison Scott scored a game-high 33 points, but the Roseburg boys basketball team lost its Southwest Conference opener against Willamette 84-60 on Thursday at Robertson Memorial Gymnasium.

The Wolverines got 24 points from Ambrose Gardner III. The sophomore came off the bench and provided a defensive spark that led to plenty of offense.

“Definitely not the showing we were hoping for,” Roseburg coach Brett Nixon said. “They pretty much controlled the game from start to finish. Toward the end of the game there it kind of looked like we just didn’t have the get-up-and-go.”

Willamette led wire-to-wire in the contest. The Wolverines stretched the lead to double figures after a 7-2 run to begin the second quarter and led by as much as 26 points in the fourth.

Scott scored the first eight points of the game for Roseburg (0-13, 0-1). The senior poured in five of 10 3-point shots made by the Indians.

Jaden Kemmerle was Roseburg’s second-leading scorer with nine.

Freshman Jordan Giles added 16 for Willamette (5-8, 1-0 SWC). Brennan Campbell chipped in 13 and Berkley Grandberry contributed 12.

Up next, the Roseburg boys will visit North Medford for a conference game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oakdale Middle School.
