Roseburg’s McLaughlin, Douglas’ Salas lead local runners at Umpqua Invite

Roseburg’s Rylie McLaughlin was the top local runner in the girl’s 5K race at the Umpqua Invite Wednesday at Stewart Park.

Running on her home course, McLaughlin covered the 5,000 meters in 20 minutes, 7.4 seconds and placed 11th in a field of 120 runners. 

Roseburg sophomore Briana Smith placed 14th and the RHS girls were fifth out of 15 in the team standings. 

Oakland’s Katelyn Jimenez finished 18th and was the only other local runner to place in the top 20. 

Thurston won the girls 5K team title. 

Douglas senior Hudson Salas was the top local runner in the boy’s 5K race. He ran the course in 16 minutes, 56.16 seconds and finished 19th out of 176 runners. 

Roseburg had all of its runners place in the top 50, led by Joseph Latham  and Tayten Keplinger, who placed 22nd and 24th, respectively. 

The Sheldon Irish won the boys team title.
