OSU dismisses Bray after 39-14 loss to Wake Forest and 0-7 start

CORVALLIS — Oregon State announced Sunday that head football coach Trent Bray had been relieved of his duties after leading the Beavers to an 0-7 start to the season. OSU lost 39-14 against Wake Forest on Saturday in Bray’s final game as head coach of his alma mater.

Bray was in his second season as coach of the Beavers. He had compiled a 5-14 overall record after taking over for Jonathan Smith, who left OSU for Michigan State.

Bray spent a total of 11 seasons on staff at Oregon State and also played for the Beavers from 2002 to 2005. He was tasked with getting OSU through two seasons without a true conference to call home after the old Pac-12 Conference crumbled and administrators worked to rebuild the conference around the only two remaining schools, OSU and Washington State.

Robb Akey will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the 2025 season. Akey brings more than three decades of coaching experience across college and professional football, including leadership roles as a head coach, defensive coordinator, and NFL assistant. He was a special assistant to Bray this season and had stepped into the role of Special Teams Coordinator this week following Jamie Christian’s firing.

The Beavers have a chance to end their 7-game skid this week as the team hosts Lafayette, an FCS team, on Saturday.
