UCC: Women’s soccer ties with No. 10 Chemeketa, volleyball rallies to win
SUTHERLIN — The Umpqua Riverhawks women’s soccer team rallied in the second half for a 2-2 draw with the No. 10 Chemeketa Storm at Sutherlin High School Wednesday.
The result earned the UCC women a point and moved them within a point of first place in the South Region standings.
Chemeketa, which is tied with Portland for first, built a 2-0 lead early in the second half. Lola Maniscalco put the Riverhawks on the board in the 65th minute and Hadley Williams tied the game in the 75th minute.
UCC goalkeeper Kayden Twichell had 10 saves in net.
The Riverhawks will visit the Portland Panthers on Friday to finish the first half of league play.
The Umpqua volleyball team picked up its first South Region win in a five-set victory against the Clark Penguins. UCC lost the first two sets, but fought back to force a fifth and final set where the Riverhawks beat the Penguins 15-9 for the win.
Kennedy Baylis Hines led the Riverhawks with 19 kills and Rory Fix added 10. Julianna Wandler had 42 assists and Gracelyn Jensen recorded 33 digs.
The UCC women will visit Linn-Benton on Friday.
