Yoncalla Eagles cancel remainder of 2025 football schedule

YONCALLA — Yoncalla High School announced that the remainder of the 2025 football season has been canceled due to a lack of available players and player safety concerns.

Yoncalla athletic director Peter James made the announcement in a Facebook post on Thursday. The Eagles had played one game so far on their 8-man football season, a 40-24 loss to Riddle on Sept. 5.

Yoncalla had been attempting to rejuvinate its football program. The school co-opted with North Douglas during the 2022 and 2023 seasons due to low turnout for both programs, but the teams had gone back to individual teams in 2024. Yoncalla finished with a 3-5 record last year and had five seniors graduate from a roster that listed 15 players total.

  • This is so sad🥹 My high school also plays 8 man football and they struggled for a few years, but are doing well now, State 8 Man Football Champs last year!!!🧡🖤 When I was in high-school, we played Yoncalla both in football and basketball. I sincerely hope Yoncalla will be back winning next year.
