American Legion Baseball: State tournament final results
PORTLAND — The Portland Post 158 Barbers finished off an undefeated run through the American Legion Baseball AAA Oregon state tournament with a 9-2 win over the Corvallis Gerding Builders Marketmen on Wednesday at Joe Etzel Field at the University of Portland.
The Barbers secured their second state title in three seasons and will represent Oregon in the Northwest Regional tournament starting Aug. 6 in Billings, Mont.
Portland (39-3) scored six runs in the fourth inning to overtake Corvallis (25-18) and break a 1-1 tie.
The Marketmen, winners of the Area 3 title, took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a base hit by Gavin Price. The Barbers tied the score on a two-out balk by Corvallis starter Jaden Fifhause in the bottom of the third.
Ryden Nakamura gave Portland, the Area 2 champ and tournament host team, a 2-1 lead on an RBI double early in the fourth inning. Kainoa Santiago helped the Barbers add to the lead with a one-out single that drove in two more runs against reliever Joe Barnes.
Portland will face the Washington state champions in the first round of the Northwest Regional on Wednesday at Dehler Park in Billings.
