American Legion Baseball: Barbers clobber Docs 14-1 for run-rule victory
The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s were overpowered from the get-go in a 14-1 nonleague loss to the Portland Barbers on Sunday at Bill Gray Stadium at Champion Car Wash Field.
The Barbers (29-2) scored in each of the first four innings to build a 13-0 lead. The scheduled 9-inning game ended early due to the mercy rule.
Rylee Cheney surrendered nine runs on eight hits over 3 1/3 innings to start. He walked two, hit two batters and struck out two. The defense didn’t do him many favors, committing two errors and failing to execute on a number of playable balls.
Gabe Coltman led an unrelenting offense for the Barbers, with three singles and three RBIs. Kainoa Santiago was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in, Connor Parry had three RBIs with two hits and Declan O’Brien had a pair of run-scoring singles.
Cal Robbins was 2-for-3 with a double for the Docs. Paxton Burke and Tauj Flora also had doubles. Dane St. Clair drove in Flora after a leadoff double in the seventh inning.
Roseburg (15-16) returns to league play with a home doubleheader against the Redmond Generals at 1 p.m. Monday.
