Legion Baseball: Missed chances cost Docs in 5-2 loss to Spanish Springs

EUGENE — The Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s had the chances but failed to capitalized on the moments in a 5-2 loss to Spanish Springs on Day 2 of the Papa’s Pizza Tournament on Thursday at Swede Johnson Stadium.

Roseburg (10-12) was 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left 12 runners on base in a loss to the Sparks, Nevada high school team. Spanish Springs (21-13) racked up 13 hits to build a 5-0 lead through five innings against Docs starter Teagan Sprague.

Logan Johnson had a pair of RBI singles for the Bandits and also pitched 6 1/3 innings. The rising-senior held Roseburg scoreless over the first five innings, while recording eight strikeouts and three walks.

Dr. Stewart’s had a last-ditch effort in the seventh inning. Logan Anderson got into scoring position with a one-out double and scored on a single by Cal Robbins. Nikko Estrada took over on the mound and got the second out before walking two batters and hitting another to allow a second run.

Estrada finished the game with a strikeout of Amos Bowers with the bases loaded.

Tauj Flora had two base hits to lead the Docs’ offense.

Roseburg faces the Washington Dirtbags on Day 3 of the tournament at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
