GRANTS PASS — The Roseburg Indians exploded for 15 hits in a 13-6 win over Grants Pass on Tuesday that moved the Tribe into a tie for first place in the Southwest Conference standings.

Jake Johnson and Paxton Burke both had three hits, while Dane St. Clair and Cal Robbins both had three RBIs to help power a Roseburg offense that saw all nine batters in the lineup record a hit.

Roseburg (10-4, 6-2 SWC) didn’t pull away from the Cavemen until late in the game. Cal Robbins gave the Indians a 1-0 with a double in the first inning and Johnson made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the third.

Grants Pass (7-6, 4-4) rallied for a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning. Evan Valenzuela got the Cavers on the board with a single and two batters later Jace McGowan smacked a two-run single that briefly put the home team in front.

The Grants Pass rally came shortly after Caveman head coach Kyle Garrison was tossed from the game after a dispute with the umpires.

Roseburg quickly squashed any momentum for Grants Pass with a huge sixth inning. The Indians sent 15 hitters to the plate and exploded for 11 runs against G.P. relievers Parker Roberts, Max Hayes and McGowan.

Cal Robbins had a two-run home run in the sixth. It was his third round-tripper in his last three games. St. Clair, Danner Wertz and Burke all had RBI doubles in the sixth as well.

Johnson earned his fourth win of the season by pitching 5 2/3 innings. He allowed five runs on five hits with six walks and six strikeouts. St. Clair closed out the game and allowed one run on two hits.

Roseburg has now played half of its league schedule and is tied with North Medford for first place in the SWC. The Indians currently hold the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Black Tornado.

Roseburg will host Willamette in a conference doubleheader at noon on Saturday at Champion Car Wash Field.
