Roseburg track & field has strong showing at Oregon Relays
EUGENE —The Roseburg High School track and field team had one of the largest high school squads at the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field in Eugene over the weekend and came away with a number of strong performances.
“I’m incredibly proud of how our athletes rose to the occasion and experienced the magic of Hayward Field,” Roseburg coach Nathan Eckman said.
The Indians set a number of new personal records during the major event that featured teams from around the region and the country.
Slyvia Eckman had a new PR in the two mile run and ranked 30th in the country with her time of 11 minutes, 20 seconds.
Emery Hurtienne hit a new personal best in the boys high jump with a mark of 6-foot-2, 10th best in the state this season.
Izak Hutchins had a toss of 159 feet, 7 inches in the javelin, a new PR.
Roseburg also had strong showings with their relay teams. The boys 4×400 relay team of David Schmid, Caden Moon, Joseph Latham and McLane Stedman set a new season-best mark with a time of 3:29.59. The girls’ relay teams set new season-best marks in the 4×100 (52.20) and the 4×400 (4:28.01).
Roseburg’s next meet will be their annual home Twilight Meet on Saturday at Finlay Field.
