Riverhawks stumble in league doubleheader at Chemeketa
SALEM — Pitching was dominant and runs were limited as the Umpqua Riverhawks baseball team dropped a pair of South Region games against Chemeketa on Sunday at Storm Field.

Chemeketa secured a series win against Umpqua with 4-2 and 1-0 victories. The Storm took 4-of-6 games against the Riverhawks this season.
UCC had its chances in the opener but struggled to come up with the clutch hit that could have swung momentum in its direction. The Riverhawks had nine hits, including doubles by Aidan O’Malley and Payton Smith, but left 15 runners on base.
Roseburg native Carson Dunn was 3-for-5 for Umpqua (11-15, 8-6 South Region). He scored both of UCC’s runs.
Teague Van Dyke pitched 7 2/3 innings and took the loss. He allowed four runs (3 earned) on 10 hits with one walk.
Chemeketa (12-13, 4-10) scored an unearned run in the second inning and stretched the advantage to 2-0 on a solo home run by Joey Genduso in the third. Genduso finished the game 3-for-4.
The Storm added runs in the fifth and eighth innings on base hits by JC Klee and Cody Leming, respectively.
Game 2 was nip and tuck through seven innings.
Chemeketa scored the only run in the fourth after Lance Kreisberg reached on an error with two outs. The sophomore stole second and scored on a single by Wyatt Hooper.
Umpqua got the leadoff runner on base in the second and third innings, but was unable to capitalize on the chances. In the final frame, Zane Bidwell led off with a double but Chemeketa starter Camren Stortro got the next three batters to fly out to end the game.
Stortro went the distance, allowing just three hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Jordan Lennartson took the loss after giving up just three hits and one unearned run. He finished with six strikeouts and one walk.
The Riverhawks have a lengthy break before they host Clackamas for a doubleheader on April 10 at Champion Car Wash Field.
