No. 3 South Salem blanks Roseburg 5-0

The Roseburg Indians baseball team finished its spring break schedule with a 5-0 shutout loss against No. 3-ranked South Salem on Wednesday at Bill Gray Legion Stadium at Champion Car Wash Field.
The Indians hurt themselves with a pair of throwing errors in the fourth inning that let the inning continue. South Salem’s Josh Feik made those miscues hurt with a triple that drove in two runs and Kevin Semm tacked on a run with a single to put the Saxons ahead 4-0.
South Salem (2-0) added its final run in the fifth when Noah Scharer stole home on a dropped third strike. Scharer led the Saxons with four hits and two runs scored.
Roseburg starter Jake Johnson was solid overall, allowing just seven hits over six innings. He struck out five and walked none in his first loss of the season.
The Indians had chances to break the shutout, but left three runners in scoring position. Roseburg (3-2) was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and finished with nine strikeouts.
Paxton Burke highlighted Roseburg’s efforts at the plate with a pair of base hits.
Roseburg will begin Southwest Conference play at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Willamette in Eugene.
