UCC softball sweeps Clark for program’s first league wins

VANCOUVER, WASH. — The Umpqua Riverhawks softball team earned its first two wins in league play with a sweep of the Clark Penguins on Tuesday in Vancouver.
Umpqua scored four runs in the final two innings to rally for a 6-2 win in the opener. The Riverhawks blasted 11 hits in the nightcap to clinch the sweep with a 13-3 win in five innings.
Ashlyn Wolfe allowed just two runs on six hits over seven innings to earn the win for Umpqua (3-13, 2-6 South Region) in Game 1. Ella Wright was 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs for UCC. The Riverhawks took the lead for good with a double-steal in the sixth inning.
UCC scored five runs in the top of the first inning in Game 2. Kiley Jones, Kierra Bennett, Haven Frable and Savannah Crawford all drove in runs for the Riverhawks to open the game.
Bella Garza had a triple and a home run and drove in three runs to lead the ‘Hawks at the plate. Jones, Bennett and Frable all added two RBI’s.
Wolfe pitched all five innings to earn her second win of the day.
The Umpqua Riverhawks play a make-up doubleheader at Lower Columbia starting at noon on Wednesday.
