Playoffs: Sutherlin girls route Westside Christ., North Douglas and UVC also advance

SUTHERLIN — The Sutherlin girls’ basketball team punched its ticket to the second round of the Class 3A state playoffs with a 54-23 win over Westside Christian Tuesday at the Dog Pound.

Addy Clark had 21 points to lead Sutherlin. Ciana Tom and Lucy VanPelt led the Eagles with five points each.

The Lady Bulldogs move on to face Cascade Christian in the second round. Sutherlin had a pair of losses to Cascade Christian during the regular season and will try to make up for that on Friday at 6 p.m.

Class 1A girls basketball playoffs

DRAIN — The North Douglas girls’ basketball team defended its home court with a 67-36 win over Joseph in the first round of the Class 1A state playoffs Tuesday.

Brooklyn Cyr had a career-high 41 points to lead the Lady Warriors and set a new single-game school record.

The North Douglas girls host Rogue Valley Adventist Academy in the second round of the playoffs on Friday. The winner moves on to the state tournament in Baker City.

The Umpqua Valley Christian girls went on the road to South Wasco County in Maupin, Oregon and pulled off a 45-34 first round upset to keep their season going.

Meagan Hellenthal had 15 points to lead three UVC players in double figures. Avery Renyer added 11 points and Kendyl Elias contributed 10.

UVC will face 3-seed Crane on Friday.
