UCC men upset No. 1 Green River, women tipoff Shoreline Crossover
The Umpqua Community College men’s basketball team began play at home in the NWAC Crossover Tournament with a 68-62 upset victory against No. 1 ranked Green River on Thursday.
The Riverhawks led 40-29 at halftime and finished the game strong after the Gators rallied to tie the game at 52-all with 7:36 left to play.
Bowen Davies had 20 points, 20 rebounds and 7 blocked shots to lead the UCC men. Bentley Whitear and Mikey Lloyd added 15 points each.
Jayden Wright had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Green River before fouling out.
The Riverhawks will continue the crossover tourney with a match against Whatcom at 6 p.m. Friday. Green River will square off with Yakima Valley at 4 p.m. Friday.
Whatcom defeated Yakima Valley 80-74 on Thursday at UCC prior to Umpqua’s win over Green River.
The Umpqua women’s team has been out of action for a while, but the Riverhawks will put their 3-0 record on the line as they begin play in the Shoreline Crossover Tournament on Friday in Washington. No. 2 ranked UCC faces No. 3 Walla Walla. The game will get underway at 5 p.m.
