Roseburg’s Eckman and Latham punch ticket to cross country state meet

Roseburg senior Sylvia Eckman took home the individual title at the Southwest Conference cross country championship meet in Talent on Wednesday.

Eckman punched her ticket to the state meet with a time of 19 minutes, 16.16 seconds on the 5K course. She out-ran the second place finisher by more than two seconds. This is Eckman’s third trip to the state meet.

The Roseburg girls finished fourth as a team and were seven points away from qualifying for state as a team.

Roseburg junior Joseph Latham is also heading to the state meet after finishing seventh in the boys 5K race. Latham finished the course in 16 minutes 46.78 seconds. He’ll make his second appearance at the state meet.

The Roseburg boys finished 5th in the team standings.

The Class 6A state meet will be held Nov. 9 at Lane Community College in Eugene.

  • Sylvia is an awesome person besides her trips to state. She has so many accomplishments Co-president of the ASB, Tons of College credits already, a Graphic designer for the Yearbook, and 11 years studying the cello.
