Corvallis shutouts Docs 3-0 in Father’s Day Tournament

Corvallis starter Jacob Fritz shutdown the Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s offense in a complete-game 3-0 victory for the Marketmen on Saturday in the Father’s Day Tournament at Bill Grey Legion Stadium at Champion Car Wash Field.

Fritz scattered four hits by the Docs and got plenty of help from the Corvallis defense to secure a berth in the tournament’s third place game at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. The Marketmen will have a rematch with Roseburg, which finished fourth in the standings after two days of round robin play.

Roseburg (4-5) was 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Fritz allowed just one walk and had two strikeouts against the Docs.

Corvallis (5-4) started the game with a single by Ben Weiss and a double by Nick Gimino. Docs starter Brevin Harrison went on to record nine consecutive outs, but a groundout by Josh Riddle gave the Marketmen a 1-0 in the first inning.

Gavin Price drove in another run for the Marketmen with a double in the fourth inning, stretchig the lead to 3-0. Corvallis finished with four doubles against Harrison, who pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing six hits with four strikeouts.

Medford and Mid-Valley will play for the tournament championship after both teams went 2-0-1 during the round robin portion. The Mustangs and Southpaws finished in a 5-5 tie on Saturday. The rematch will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday.

In the 5 vs 6 matchup, Klamath Falls will face Salem at 9 a.m. Sunday.
