KLAMATH FALLS – The season came to an end on Tuesday for the South Umpqua softball team with a 6-3 loss at Henley in the OSAA 4A state semifinals.

The Lancers were hoping to reach the state title game for the first time in school history and started out on the right foot. Kalie Mann gave South Umpqua a 2-0 lead with a home run in the first inning. The Lancers added another run in the second off a RBI from Tayah Kelley.

S.U. led 3-1 going to the bottom of the third. Henley tied the game on back-to-back home runs, all coming with two outs. The Hornets gained the lead with two runs in the fourth inning and managed to hold off the Lancers the rest of the way.

Kelley and Skylee Gibson led the South Umpqua hitting with two hits each. The Lancers managed seven hits against the Hornets, but struck out nine times.

South Umpqua finished the season with a 23-6 overall record. Henley advances to the state championship game on Saturday against top-seed LaGrande. The game will be played at the Oregon State softball complex in Corvallis.
