MEDFORD – Roseburg’s Tyler Sconce will get a chance to defend his shot put state title from last year after beating the field at the Southwest Conference district meet on Thursday. Sconce won with a throw of 54-00.5. The throw was his best of the year, but fell more than a foot short of his state winning mark last year.
Roseburg junior Carson Ellis finished second in the shot put with a throw of 48-03. His runner-up finish qualifies him for state for a second consecutive season.
In the javelin, Roseburg senior Dalton Rasmussen blew away the competition with a personal best throw. Rasmussen launched a throw 193-03 to win the competition by over 13 feet. It’s just the second time in his career that Rasmussen has thrown 190 feet or more. The throw is the fourth best in the state this season.
The Roseburg girls didn’t have a state qualifier during Thursday’s competition, but so far there have only been five finals at the district meet. The Indians will have more chances when the district meet concludes on Saturday.
In the team scores, the Roseburg boys are third with 33 points. The RHS girls are fourth with 20. Roseburg and the rest of the Southwest Conference will wrap things up on Saturday in Medford.
