ROSEBURG –  Zack Mandera and Cody Johnson pitched complete games and the Roseburg offense put up 19 hits as the Indians swept the visiting Willamette Wolverines in a Southwest Conference doubleheader on Saturday.

Mandera allowed just two hits and no runs over five innings in an 11-0 victory to start out the twin bill. Johnson followed with a seven inning performance as he guided Roseburg through a 9-2 victory.

A Brody Black sacrifice fly gave the Indians a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one. The Tribe broke the game open by sending 12 hitters to the plate in the second inning and scoring six runs on five hits. Roseburg polished off the Mercy Rule victory with another four runs in the fourth.

Mandera shut down the Willamette offense. The Wolverines only had two baserunners in five innings and only one managed to reach scoring position. Mandera struck out seven hitters and didn’t give up a walk.

Jonathan Stone went 2-for-2 in game one with an RBI and two runs scored. Caden Johnson was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Willamette (2-10; 1-7 SWC) took a 2-0 lead over the Indians in the third inning of game two. The Wolverines notched three hits with two outs against Roseburg starter Cody Johnson, but left the bases loaded to finish the frame.

Roseburg (10-3; 6-2 SWC) didn’t waste time bouncing back. The Indians scored three times in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good.

The Tribe followed that with a five-run frame in the fourth to pull ahead 8-2. Caden Johnson started the scoring with a two-run double. Cody Johnson drove in a run later in the inning with a double of his own.

Cody, the senior of the Johnson brothers, didn’t allow another hit to the Wolverines over the final three innings. He finished with seven strikes outs and two walks.

Roseburg remained 1.5 games behind conference leader South Medford, but the Indians managed to build a small lead ahead of the rest of the conference. Third place North Medford trails Roseburg by two games.

Up next, Roseburg will host North Medford for a single contest scheduled for Tuesday, weather permitting.
