ROSEBURG – Hours before he went out and claimed first in both the shot put and discus competitions in Roseburg’s home dual meet with South Eugene, Roseburg thrower Tyler Sconce signed his letter of intent to commit to Colorado University for his education and athletic career.

Sconce, the 2017 shot put state champion, plans to throw the shot, discus, and the hammer for the Buffaloes. He said at a signing ceremony at Roseburg High School on Wednesday he was very impressed with Colorado during the recruiting process.

“When I visited them they were very, very respectful and they knew exactly how to treat a recruit. They said that if I were to go there, it’s a very nice campus and I’ll be treated really well.”

Sconce is excited about competing in the Pac-12 next season, but did admit it might be a little nerve-raking.  Before he leaves for the rigors of college competitions, Sconce has high expectations for his final season in a Roseburg jersey.

“I strive to win shot put and discus this year,” Sconce explained. “By looking at Athletic.net, I think I have a pretty good chance.”

Sconce and the Roseburg track and field team will next compete at the Crater Classic in Central Point on Saturday.
