MEDFORD – The Roseburg and South Medford baseball teams met in a make-up doubleheader at Harry and David Field in Medford on Monday and the Panthers showed why they were there preseason pick to win the Southwest Conference title in 2018.

The Panthers out-hit the Indians 15-9 in the twin-bill and capitalized on seven Roseburg errors to out-duel the Tribe 10-0 in game one and 6-3 in game two.

South Medford (7-3; 4-0 SWC) jumped on Roseburg starter Zack Mandera for seven runs in the first two innings of game one. A two-run homer by Jack Thompson capped the 7-0 start for the Panthers, who then added three more runs in the fourth against reliever Mason Littlefield to complete the Mercy Rule win in five innings.

Roseburg (7-3; 3-2 SWC) fell behind 5-0 in game two, but mustered a rally in the sixth to make things interesting. Mandera drove in the Indians’ first run with a one out single and Cody Johnson followed with a two-run triple to pull the Tribe to within two.

Jacob Melton hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth that made it a three-run game again and then he shut the door by picking up a three-out save in the seventh.

Roseburg falls into a tie for third with North Medford. Up next, the Indians are scheduled to visit Sheldon Tuesday for a conference game. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. Tune in for coverage starting at 4:15 p.m. on 1490 The Score and online at 541radio.com.
