EVERETT, WA – The Umpqua RiverHawks were in control from start to finish Thursday morning at the Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament. UCC led wire-to-wire in its 83-62 first round win over the Peninsula Pirates at Everett Community College.

The RiverHawks shot nearly 51 percent from the floor and used their height advantage to run away from the Pirates. Umpqua scored 50 points in the paint, led by posts Daisy Powell and Jordan Stotler. The sophomores combined to score 47 points. Powell scored a game-high 26 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for a double-double. Stotler stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Up next for the top-ranked RiverHawks is #5 Columbia Basin, which advanced to the Elite Eight with a 61-46 victory over Centralia Thursday morning. The two sides will meet in the Friday at 2 p.m.
