Jordan Stotler

ROSEBURG – The Northwest Athletic Conference All-Region teams were announced Tuesday night prior to the start of the men’s and women’s conference tournaments on Thursday. Once again, the Umpqua women dominated the top awards in the South Region after winning their second-consecutive league title.

Sophomore Jordan Stotler followed-up last year’s sweep of the awards season by taking top honors again this year. The 6-foot-4 post was voted by the league’s coaches the South Region MVP and Defensive Player of the Year for a second consecutive season.

Stotler averaged a double-double for the RiverHawks, with 15 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. She also led the NWAC in blocked shots.

Last year, Stotler was also named the Freshman of the Year, but this season the honors went to her teammate Taylor Stricklin.

Also earning honors for the UCC women were sophomores Bria Thames, who was selected first team, and Daisy Powell, who earned second team honors along with Taylor Stricklin. Head coach Dave Stricklin, Taylor’s father, was selected as the South Region Coach of the Year.

There were a couple of other familiar names on the All-South Region teams. Former Sutherlin standouts Kayce and Ricki Mock were both honored. Kayce was a first team All-South Region member and joined Ricki on the All-Region defensive team. The sisters helped guide the Clackamas Cougars to a third place finish in the South and a berth in the upcoming NWAC playoffs.

On the men’s side, Umpqua sophomore Ethan Betts earned first team honors after leading the RiverHawks in points, assists, and steals per game. Freshman Coleman Johnson was selected to the All-Defensive Team.

Along with the All-Region teams, the final coaches polls were released now that the regular season has ended and the Umpqua women finished as the top team in the conference. The Lady RiverHawks narrowly edged out Walla Walla for the top spot. Umpqua had five first place votes, while Walla Walla had three and finished just two points behind UCC. The Umpqua women had been the unanimous pick for No. 1 in the previous coaches poll before losing its only game of the year against No. 3 Lane on February 28.

Up next for the Umpqua women is the start of the NWAC playoffs. The RiverHawks start the tournament Thursday morning in Everett, Washington against Peninsula.
