BAKER CITY, ORE. – The Days Creek girls moved on to the 1A state semifinals after a 58-50 win over Jordan Valley on Wednesday in the quarterfinals at Baker High School. The Wolves led wire-to-wire on their way to a seventh consecutive victory and will next face top-seed Country Christian for a berth in the state championship game.
Three players scored in double figures for Days Creek, led by Carlie Dossman with 14. Joleen Crume added 13 points and Moriah Michaels chipped in 12. Winter Woodruff pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to go along with eight points.
Jordan Valley was led by Taylor Warn, who scored a game-high 15 points.
Days Creek stretched the lead to 10 points with 6:15 remaining in regulation. The Wolves looked poised to cruise to an easy victory, but Jordan Valley responded with an 11-3 run over the next three minutes to make the score 51-49. Days Creek managed to hold its composure and finish the game on a 7-1 run.
Days Creek and Country Christian will meet in the semifinals on Friday at noon in Baker City. Country Christian advanced after narrowly defeating Joseph 55-52 in the quarterfinals. The semifinal game will be a rematch of a early season tournament contest, where Country Christian defeated Days Creek 53-33.
The Lady Wolves have reached the state semifinals three times prior, but not since the program finished third in 1984.
