COOS BAY – The Umpqua women’s streak continues and the Umpqua men moved into sole possession of second place after the RiverHawks swept Southwestern Oregon on Wednesday.

The UCC women fell behind the Lakers to start the first quarter, but turned on the defense to route Southwestern Oregon 99-68. The RiverHawks slowly built a 12-point lead after the first three quarters and pulled away in the fourth by outscoring SWOCC 30-11.

Jordan Stotler put together a monster game and fell two assists shy of a quadruple-double. The sophomore finished with 27 points, 14 rebounds, 10 blocks, and eight assists. It was Stotler’s first triple-double of the year.

Daisy Powell added 25 points off the bench for No. 1 ranked UCC and Bria Thames chipped in 22. The Lady RiverHawks have now won 24-straight games, but still hold just a one-game lead over Clackamas for first place in the South Region.

The Umpqua men took over sole possession of second place in the South Region standings with a 77-73 win over the Lakers.

The RiverHawks led 71-61 with 3:30 left to play, but SWOCC went on a run and got back to within three points with 18 seconds remaining. Connor Shaw kept UCC in front in the final seconds by going 3-for-4 from the free throw stripe.

Ethan Betts led Umpqua with a game-high 24 points. He added 13 rebounds and four assists.

The win, combined with other South Region results, gave the RiverHawks a one-game advantage over third place Linn-Benton. Umpqua also moved to within 1.5 games of first place Portland, which lost to Chemeketa.

Up next, the Umpqua RiverHawks will host the Portland Panthers on Saturday.
