ROSEBURG – The Roseburg boys basketball team was able to keep things tight with the North Medford Black Tornado into the fourth quarter on Tuesday night, but North pulled away at the free throw line for a 59-48 victory.

The Indians fell behind by 11 at halftime, but cut the deficit down to 35-30 midway through the third quarter. North Medford (19-3; 7-2 SWC) responded by finishing the period on a 7-0 run and led 42-30 going to the fourth. Roseburg (11-11; 2-8 SWC) managed to cut the deficit back to single digits on multiple occasions in the final period, but the Black Tornado made 10-of-12 from the free throw line in the fourth to hold off the Indians.

Roseburg’s leading scorer, Collin Warmouth, started slow, but finished with a game-high 18 points. The junior scored just four points in the first half, but boosted his numbers by going 10-for-10 at the free throw line in the second half. Cody Johnson and Jon Crince each added eight points for the Indians.

Kaison Faust scored 18 to lead three North Medford players in double digits. Quinton Rumrey added 12 and Jaray Thomas contributed 10. North Medford secured a playoff berth with the victory.

The Tribe has now dropped its last four games. Roseburg is ranked 37th by the OSAA and is on the bubble of reaching a 6A play-in game. The Indians would greatly improve their chances of reaching the post season with a win or two over their final two games of the regular season. Up next, Roseburg will host South Eugene for senior night on Friday.
