SUTHERLIN — The Sutherlin boys basketball team blew open a close game in the fourth quarter Tuesday night, for a 53-32 victory over the Junction City Tigers. The win sets up a showdown with Sisters on Friday night that will decide the Sky-Em League champion.

The Bulldogs (16-7, 8-1 Sky-Em) led by only seven at the end of the third period, but senior Riley Westbrooks scored seven in the fourth period and junior Payton Hope hit a pair of field goals and two free throws to extend the lead.

Mason Gill led all scorers with 18 points before he fouled out with just over a minute to go. Westbrooks finished with 13 points, including three 3-pointers.

The Tigers (12-11, 3-6 Sky-Em) were led by senior Matthew Penn with 14. Sutherlin’s defense held Penn to less than half the 29 points he scored in the Bulldogs’ overtime win at Junction City earlier in the season.

Sutherlin will travel to Sisters on Friday night for its last ever Sky-Em League game. The Bulldogs will move down to the 3A classification and a new league next year. The winner takes the Sky-Em League title and number one seed for the playoffs.
