SUTHERLIN — The Southern boys basketball team had four players in double figures Friday night and led almost the entire game as the Bulldogs knocked off Cottage Grove 56-49 at Sutherlin High School.
The Bulldogs (15-7, 7-1 Sky-Em) built a 13-point lead at halftime, thanks in part to Albert Christianson getting all 13 of his points in the first half.
The lead dwindled to seven after three periods and Cottage Grove cut it to five after the Lions began fouling. The Bulldogs made just enough from the free throw line to put the game away.
Senior Trevor Daniels also had 13 for Sutherlin, while sophomores Brandon Carr and Mason gill each had 10 and senior Riley Westbrooks just missed double figures with nine.
Jesse Ellingworth led Cottage Grove (13-8, 5-3 Sky-Em) with 26 points. He had 10 in the third period and 11 more in the fourth.
Sutherlin remains on track to win the Sky-Em League championship. If the Bulldogs win out, they’ll claim the top spot. Up next, they host Junction City on Tuesday and then finish at co-leader Sisters on Friday.
