SUTHERLIN — Freshman Paige Bailey scored 29 points and sophomore Kirsten Haines added 26 to lead the Sutherlin girls basketball team to a 77-48 victory over the Elmira Falcons in a Sky-Em League game Tuesday night at Sutherlin High School.

The win for the Bulldogs (10-11; 5-2 Sky-Em) clinched at least a third place finish in the league standings and moved the Bulldogs to within one game of first place teams Cottage Grove and Junction City.

Sutherlin led 19-11 at the end of the first quarter after hitting five 3-pointers and the shots just kept falling. In the second quarter they had four more from long distance and led 38-19 at the half. The Bulldogs put the game out of reach with 22 points in the third period to take a 60-31 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs had 13 threes in the game with Haines getting five and Bailey four.

Sutherlin will host Cottage Grove Friday night. The Lions lost to Junction City Tuesday night 44-36, to fall into a tie with the Tigers first first place in the Sky-Em League.
