SUTHERLIN – The Sutherlin boys basketball team led all the way from start to finish to defeat Elmira 63-46 in a Sky-Em League game Tuesday night at Sutherlin High School.

The Bulldogs (14-7; 6-1 Sky-Em) stayed in a tie for first place in the league standings with the win.

Sophomore Mason Gill poured in 29 points, including 14 in the big third quarter, and the Bulldogs held off an Elmira rally in the fourth period to get the win.

Sutherlin led by only two at halftime, but opened a nine point lead in the third. The Falcons had it down to seven, but couldn’t get any closer.

Payton Hope added 14 for the Bulldogs and eight different players scored.

Senior Kellen Smith led the Elmira (4-16; 0-7 Sky-Em) with 17 points.

Sutherlin will host Cottage Grove Friday night. The Lions gave Sutherlin its only league loss two weeks ago.
