ROSEBURG – The Chemeketa Storm were no match for the Umpqua RiverHawks on Wednesday night.

The top-ranked women started out the evening with a 90-74 win to improve to 19-0 on the year. The RiverHawks led by only five midway through the third quarter, but finished on a 17-8 run to close out the period and take a 14-point lead to the fourth. Umpqua held at least a nine-point advantage throughout the rest of the contest.

The Lady RiverHawks had five players score 10 or more, led by Bria Thames with 24. Jordan Stotler and Dajanay Powell each added a double-double. Stotler finished with 21 points and 16 rebounds and Powell contributed 14 points and 12 boards.

Up next, the No. 1 Umpqua women will face the No. 5 Clackamas Cougars on Saturday in a battle for first in the South Region.

The Umpqua men built a 14-point lead against the Storm in the first half and rode that to a 95-80 win. UCC led by as much as 31-points in the second half as the men improved to 4-2 in league play.

Coleman Johnson scored a game-high 28 points for the RiverHawks and added seven rebounds and five blocked shots.

On Saturday, the third place Umpqua men will try to move into a tie with second place Clackamas.
