COTTAGE GROVE — The Sutherlin girls basketball team was held scoreless until the final minute of the second quarter Friday night at Cottage Grove and they could never find an answer for their extreme height disadvantage as the Lions rolled to a 53-22 victory over the shorthanded Bulldogs.

Sutherlin (7-10, 2-1) couldn’t match up with Cottage Grove’s 6-foot-3 sophomore Reilly Kelty, who had 20 points.

Kierstan Haines got the Bulldogs first points with a three-pointer with 48 seconds to go in the second quarter and Megan Carrillo added another three just seconds later and the Bulldogs only trailed 16-6 at the half.

The Lions started to pull away in the third period. Cottage Grove outscored the Bulldogs 18-6 and stretched the lead throughout the fourth.

Cottage Grove (3-0, 7-7) beat the Bulldogs for the second time in the last three games

Carrillo led the Bulldogs with nine points on three 3-pointers. Haines finished with six and Savannah McHugill added five.

Sutherlin played without Taylor Mosher and Carmen Ganger, their two tallest players.
