REDMOND – The top-ranked Roseburg wrestling team edged out three straight narrow victories to win the 6A team title at the Oregon Classic dual championship in Redmond on Saturday.
The Tribe topped No. 5 West Linn 36-34 in the quarterfinals and defeated No. 4 David Douglas 39-29 in the semifinals to reach the championship dual. The Indians beat No. 2 Newberg 36-28 in the finals to win their fifth straight Oregon Classic title.
Roseburg’s Thomas Spence, Tristan David, and Terrell Jacks all won by fall in the championship dual. Jacks went 3-0 on Saturday as the Indians fought for the title. Senior Hunter Sparks went 7-0 in Roseburg’s seven duals over the two-day event. Spence and Brandon Jeffers were both 6-0 at the tournament as well.
Up next, the Indians will host South Medford for a Southwest Conference dual. The meet on Wednesday will be the final home competition of the season for Roseburg.
The No. 2 ranked Glide Wildcats finished fifth in the 3A competition at the Oregon Classic. Gage Dill, Zach Holland, and Cayden Kangiser all won by fall in the Wildcats 36-33 win over Burns.
