The Umpqua women improved to 11-0 on the year with an 84-75 win over Yakima Valley in the Holiday Classic at Lower Columbia Community College Thursday.
The Lady RiverHawks needed a second half rally to overcome a 47-39 deficit at the break. Taylor Stricklin scored 15 points in the second half to help UCC outscore the Yaks 45-28 over the final two quarters.
Stricklin finished with 22 points and sophomore Bria Thames netted a game-high 25 points to lead the RiverHawks. Thames added 12 rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Jordan Stotler also had a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds.
The UCC ladies will face Centralia at Lower Columbia Community College Friday at 4 p.m.
The Umpqua men began a three-game stint at the College of the Siskiyous in Weed, California on Thursday. The RiverHawks started with a 110-54 win over Simpson University’s JV team. UCC will next face Shasta College Friday at 2 p.m. before finishing the three-game trip against College of the Siskiyous on Saturday.
