COOS BAY — Sophomore Mason Gill poured in 33 points for Sutherlin as the Bulldogs pulled away from the North Bend Bulldogs for a 49-33 victory in the consolation bracket of the Les Schwab South Coast Holiday Tournament at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay on Friday.

Gill, who finished with 17 rebounds, had only two points in the first quarter, but caught fire in the second period and hit for 10. He got nine more in the third period as Sutherlin pulled out to a 33-26 lead.

Gill almost single-handedly gave the Bulldogs a 16-point lead in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter, with a three-point play, then got a steal, got the basket and was fouled, missed the free-throw, rebounded it and got the put back and before the Brown Bulldogs knew what hit them, it was 40-24 and it was never in doubt after that.

“Mason has been a little reluctant, but today, he came to play,” said coach Willis New.

North Bend (2-4) was led by Jake Simmons with 12.
