ROSEBURG – The Roseburg wrestling team conquered the North Medford Black Tornado in its first conference dual of the season on Wednesday. Wrestling at home for the first of only three occasions, the Indians won 10 out of 14 matches and outscored the Black Tornado 54-21.

The Tribe won eight matches by fall. Pinning their opponents were Cameron Cross (106), Kaden Schlatter (113), Thomas Spence (126), Caleb Jeffers (138), Austin David (152), Logan Folsom (170), Brandon Jeffers (182), and Terrell Jacks (195). Hunter Sparks won his match at 132 pounds by a 4-0 decision and Garrett Russell (160) earned an 11-4 decision.

The JV wrestling team also won against North Medford last night. The Indians had six wrestlers win by pin in the 55-18 victory.

Up next for the Roseburg varsity team is the Reno Tournament of Champions. The team leaves Thursday and will wrestle on Friday and Saturday.

There will be a number of college connections at the Reno Tournament of Champions as well. The Umpqua men’s wrestling team will send its team to Reno to compete in the college tournament on Sunday. The Oklahoma State wrestling team will also be in attendance and former Roseburg wrestler Austin Harris is expected to compete.
